ETUDE PETROGRAPHIQUE ET STRUCTURALE DES SCHISTES CRISTALLINS ET GRANITES EN BASSE VILAINE

Abstract : The region under study is divided between the northeastern half of the sheet at 1: 250,000 of Roche Bernard (S-22) and the southern half of that of Questembert (X-21). It is in the form of a gently undulating peneplain, whose average altitude, which rarely exceeds fifty meters, rises progressively from the depression of micaschists of the estuary of the Vilaine. The tertiary morphological accident of the Sillon de Bretagne (Ch. BARROIS, 1930) defined further south-east, in the Savenay region, is manifested here in an attenuated way, in the form of an escarpment of 20 to 30 meters from the lip. north-east (La Grange, La Belliotterie see topographic map at 1 / 50,000th of La Roche Bernard). The Vilaine, whose steep banks allow the best geological observations, crosses this plateau in a "bayonet" pattern; small, flush or adjacent valleys of medium NW-SE direction generally obscure the geological contacts.
