Abstract

Groundwater of the arsenic affected areas demonstrates that the water is Ca-bocarbonate type and typical anoxie in nature. High arsenic groundwater is distributed in patches and “hot spots” are identifie in palaeo-meander belt. Iron rich arsenic traps undergo reduction and release redox sensitive species (As and Fe) under local reducing conditions. Releases of redox species are often depends on land-use pattern and the abundance of bio-available fonns of iron oxides/minerals.
