A geological section across the Variscan belt in the SE French Massif central (Cévennes-Gévaudan)

Une coupe de la chaîne varisque dans le SE du Massif central Cévennes-Gévaudan

Abstract

The field trip brought together around twenty very enthusiastic and motivated participants, from many high schools of the Occitanie region. Their questions and comments greatly helped the author to improve the writing of the article. A fourth day, corresponding to a submeridian section in the central Cévennes, was then added. This presentation of the major lithostructural, magmatic, metamorphic, and structural features of the pre-Permian setting of the SouthEast Massif Central, and of the sites where they can be observed is likely to interest a readership extended to other teachers and amateurs interested in the geology of the Variscan chain.
