Photometric properties of the nucleus of 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko from OSIRIS/Rosetta, space telescope, and ground-based observations

Abstract : In-situ imaging of the nucleus of comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko by the OSIRIS Narrow Angle Camera (NAC) allows an in depth characterization of its photometric properties that can be compared with remote observations thus helping in the interpretation of other nuclei. We performed a photometric analysis of both unresolved and resolved NAC images of the nucleus obtained during twenty five observational campaigns spreading from 23 March to 6 August 2014 with up to twelve filters whose spectral coverage extended from 271 to 986 nm. An accurate photometric calibration was obtained from the observations of a solar analog star, 16 Cyg B. We further combined this analysis with previous observations obtained with the Hubble and Spitzer space telescopes and ground-based telescopes. The analysis further incorporates the shape model and the rotational state the nucleus of \67P independently determined from the NAC images. We will present results on the geometric albedo, phase function, color and thermal properties and put them in the broader context of properties of cometary nuclei.
