Abstract

We present Parker Solar Probe observations of an in situ Type III radio burst. On 2020 May 27, during PSP's fifth encounter with the Sun, the PSP FIELDS/RFS radio receiver observed a Type III radio burst extending down to the local plasma frequency. Locally generated Langmuir waves are also present, apparent in the RFS spectral data and captured in high time resolution waveforms from the FIELDS/TDS and DFB receivers. We analyze the properties of the in situ waves and PSP SWEAP/SPAN observations of the electron beam associated with the Type III, and compare to previous measurements at 1 au.
